The Dog House Bar in St. George’s Street is the latest City Centre Bar to be launched by dream-team über-publicans Andy Viner and Aidan Mahon, who have between them formerly transformed Delaneys and The Hog in Armour.
Previously The Red Lion Pub, which closed down some three years ago, the building is Grade II listed and recorded as being a pub as far back as the 19th century. The central City Centre location makes it an ideal stop-off after work or to grab a pre- or post-theatre drink before going to the nearby Playhouse or Cinema City.
The £1M renovation sees an interior that is fitting of any self-respecting ‘proper traditional pub’ - wooden furnishings around original fittings, a well-stocked bar, and, uniquely, a wall where you can get real ale straight from the keg. However, this is very much a modern-traditional styling, with large, flat-screen TVs alongside exposed beam work and a brick fireplace and chimneybreast, all illuminated by chic contemporary lighting. Music plays throughout, piped in via discreet speakers.
Downstairs has a lovely sweeping wooden bar that leads out to “The Yard” - a totally enclosed outside terrace.
Upstairs, you’ll find “The Kennel”, a split-level air-conditioned function room with its own bar that is available for hire for private parties and functions.
Best described as a ‘real ale pub with more than a hint of City Centre urban chic’, The Dog House Bar will undoubtedly quickly become a very cool phenomenon in Norwich’s newest pedestrianised area.

Norwich, United Kingdom - 13th August 2010Thanks to Aidan and his brilliant staff we had a super 21st Party for our daughter, the atmosphere was electric, staff and food were exceptional, shame the night went so quickly, everyone was really enjoying themselves, DJ played the right type of music to get everyone dancing, creating the right atmosphere.
Thanks to all again. Julie

Norwich, United Kingdom - 23rd November 2009We hired 'The Kennel' for our engagement party and we and our guests were very impressed with the venue and the great bar staff. I would have no hesitation recommending the Dog House to anyone. Big thanks to Aidan for looking after us! We will be returning to try out the tasty looking waffles!!

Norwich, United Kingdom - 1st September 2009The Doghouse is very reasonable, very convienient location, and a very nice atmosphere. The waffles are delicious and a nice change from sandwiches for lunch. If only they served the Nachos till a little later in the day, would be perfect then!

Norwich, United Kingdom - 19th August 2008Don't be put off by the slightly stand-offishh air about this place, particularly when you walk past during the day and it looks half empty. The staff are friendly, the courtyard lovely and they need to make more of their VERY GOOD waffles served noon to 6pm. They are far cheaper than that other place and delicious.

norwich, United Kingdom - 14th August 2008a very nice new bar with a good atmosphere, even if some of the clientele are a bit up themselves. there is also the added attraction of a particularly attractive curly-haired barman...
